Non-landing tourist flights, operated in Korea and several other countries during the pandemic, are flights that fly for several hours without landing. They cross into foreign airspace borders, and then return to the airport from which they departed.

Juhyun Cho’s Flights to Nowhere is an exploration of this specific type of tour flight. Cho captures the experience of boarding and being on such a flight, documenting it through filming and using montage techniques. By focusing on special tour flights that depart and arrive at the same airport, Cho delves into the concept of groundlessness and reacts to the social situations of the pandemic’s recent past. In this way, Flights to Nowhere suggests a sense of being suspended or untethered, reflecting the surreal and uncertain times of the past few years.
